Three Rivers review
So the pilot of Three Rivers aired tonight. For those of you who don't know, it is the comeback show for my beloved Alex O'Loughlin, late of the criminally canceled Moonlight. I'll put my thoughts behind a cut for the spoilerphobes.

As much as I hate to say it, the pilot kinda sucked. It wasn't the worst pilot ever, but it was close. This is the episode the network chose to air? Seriously? First the original pilot was scrapped because certain characters didn't test well. Then the replacement pilot got switched with the second episode, which became the episode that aired tonight. Next week's episode better be really bad, because I didn't really see anything all that redeeming in this episode.

Brief synopsis: Dr. Andy Yablonski and his crack transplant team at Three Rivers hospital race against the clock to find a heart for a pregnant mother. Meanwhile. Dr Foster treats a 13 year old middle schooler who swallows metal. Dr. Yablonski also befriends a Sudanese man who shows up at the hospital with a congenitive heart condition and is in dire need on a transplant himself.

The dialogue was bad. I mean really bad. Poor Alex. And poor Alfre Woodard. What was her job again? Did we even get her name? The background characters had little to no personality. The fancy graphics took me completely out of the scene. It felt like the USS Enterprise. Speaking of the Enterprise, we had a Deanna Troi sighting! Not even that geeky squee helped. The pregnant girl getting the transplant was previously on House in season 2. She was the post-partem depression lady who drowned her baby.

The only highlight I could see was the banter between Andy and Pam, his kickass nurse. But they only had like two scenes together. It's almost like the show doesn't know what it wants to be. If we get into the personal lives of the doctors and transplant team, it'll be a poor man's Grey's Anatomy. If they stick to the medicine and diagnoses, it'll be an even more lame version of House. But I don't think it can be both.

In the end, I'll keep watching as long as it's on, if only to see a pretty and charming Alex O'Loughlin every week. Hearing him say, "Stay tuned for scenes from our next episode" made me realize how much I missed him in a weekly series. But he deserves better.

For those hoping for an update to Enough for Now, my apologies. I wanted to write this weekend, but I'm knee deep in research for my paper. School has taken over my time. I'll try to get you guys something this week though!

im with you with my thoughts of the pilot, it didn't really do anything for me, i was waiting for it to pick up but it just didn't. I'll stick with it though for Alex, plus some of the promo's for the show in general have looked much better and like there are much better storylines coming along. so fingers crossed

I hoping it picks up too. As much as we all love it, the premiere for Moonlight wasn't exactly the best episode either. It took them a few to get their legs under them. I hope for Alex's sake it gets better!

but Moonlight didn't hook me until episode 4... so i'll watch another few weeks and see what happens.

Moonlight didn't really get me until the 4/5 mark as well, so we'll see.

hehe cool.... yeah

So that's why it didn't seem like a pilot -- it wasn't. The lack of character development for a premiere was appalling. Why should I even care about these people. If they didn't have Alex, they wouldn't have me for eppy 2.

Plus, I didn't really feel like Alex's heart was in it. And, I kept getting distracted by his occasional Australian accent. Oops.

I hope next week is better!

I didn't think Alex's heart was in it either. He just seemed...off. But the episode airing this week IS the pilot, so we'll see I guess. :(
